Some thoughts on tax justice
They way how governments derive power is through two means: their violence monopoly (i.e. police and military) and the fact that they take taxes from you. In a capitalist society, power means controlling where money should go.
I believe that true democracy is only possible when people get the power to distribute taxes. That is, everyone gets the same slice of the cake of all the taxes and can distribute them. Obviously that wouldn't work right away, because the education system educates children to be so passive that they believe that voting for a party every few years is enough democracy, while the politicians still retain power over where the tax money is spent. Current voting processes are just blinding the people into believing that they have power, but I strongly believe that we still have some way to go.
After feudalism, the French Revolution came, the Workers' revolution, republics, suffrage etc. But no one ever talks about transitioning towards a world where the people have direct influence over where their equal share of the tax money goes. Tackling this is what's the starting point of this entire solarpunk revolution, because only once we've structurally eliminated corrupt politicians, anything can go forward. Obviously this is a huge endeavor, and many of the politicians will fight against this heavily.
Support networks against power-hungry narcissists will become more and more important. In the end, it's just a fact that we need to take this budgetary power away from them and give it to the people instead. Every other political goal can only be effectively pursued once this is resolved.
